Rocket Dock Rocks!

In my trek for a MAC OS X style dock for my Ubuntu PC, the other day, I happened upon a neat little app called Rocket Dock. This app is actually for Windows but I decided to try it out anyway (I’ve yet to find one for Ubuntu that I like).

I was pleasantly surprised. It was a fairly small download and was quick to install. So far I have been running it for 3 days and haven’t had any issues whatsoever.

One of my favorite things about this is the availability of custom icons, skins, docklets available to make your experience with it that much better. The icons are particularly useful because some applications don’t fare well with Rocket Dock’s method of rendering the icons. The one that sticks out in my mind is Internet Explorer.

If you are interested in such a tool I suggest giving rocket dock a try. You can get it from their official website at http://www.rocketdock.com/.

If you are running Rocket Dock in Ubuntu, what program are you using to open and run it?

Oops, I apologize if I didn’t make my post very clear. I’m actually running it on Windows XP here. I haven’t yet found a suitable dock for Ubuntu. I just happened upon Rocket Dock while searching for one that would work on Linux.

I would be curious to see if Rocket Dock would work with WINE though.

I tried it in Wine HQ. It worked kinda… It ran good but the transparent parts were black. IDK if I can fix this. It may take a bit of tweaking.

Nope it looks like there is no way to fix this problem, but I did find a “rocket dock like app for Ubuntu” Its called cairo dock. It works kinda like Rocket dock. But Rocket dock it better.

Thanks for the info ARKaMAN :) Maybe someday Wine will run Rocket Dock correctly.

Have you considered posting an entry in the Wine AppDB with this info in it? Maybe that would kickstart development of a fix.
